A number of goverment schools in the city have been without regular heads for more than a year now. While seven such schools saw the appointment of officiating headmasters and headmistresses on Thursday,another seven are still functioning without heads.
The posts of heads are vacant in GMHS,Sector 52,Government Girls Senior Secondary School (GGSSS) in Sector 23 and 20,GHS,Sector 35,Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS),Sector 15 and Raipur Khurd and Government Primary School (GPS),Manimajra.
While GMHS,Sector 52,GGSSS,Sector 23 and 20,GHS in Sector 35 and GSSS,Sector 15 are functioning without heads for the past one year,GSSS Raipur Khurd has not had a principal for the last two years. Further,over the last six years,nobody has been appointed as headmaster or headmistress in GPS Manimajra.
The additional charge for running some of these schools has been given to the principals of schools located in their neighbourhood. Principal in GMSSS,Sector 16,Anujit Kaur is heading GSSS Sector 15,while Ravi Raj Kaur,Principal in GMSSS Sector 35 has got the responsibilty of GHS Sector 35 and GPS Manimajra is being controlled by Kund Vala,Principal GMSSS,Manimajra.
Agreeing that all these fourteen schools are functioning without heads due to the long pending promotions of teachers, UTs Director Public Instructions (schools),Sandeep Hans said,We have initiated the process for declaring the seniorities of the teachers,we will make sure that appointment of regular headmasters,headmistresses and principals are made immediately after the final declaration of seniority.
Recent appointments have been made in Government Model High School (GMHS) in Sector 12,34,41,Vikas Nagar,Government High School (GHS) and Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS),Sarangpur and GHS,Maulijagran.
In a meeting of members of Government Teachers Union with the Director Public Instructions (DPI) Schools on July 26,it was decided that the UT Education Department will clear the long pending promotions of the UT cadre teachers within next three weeks.
Following the meeting,a provisional list of seniority of all the teachers was uploaded on departments website.
However,DPI(s) asserted that the appointments of the seven teachers as officiating school heads on Thursday cannot be termed as promotions.
These teachers have been appointed as the officiating heads of the schools since the posts of headmaster or Headmistress was lying vacant in these schools. The promotions of UT cadre teachers will be finalised after three weeks, he said.
