“I am seized of all the anxieties and apprehensions you all have because of me not being able to interact with you on this Facebook community. I too am very keen to personally interact with you all but the Jaago Punjab Yatra leaves me no time to do that,” ousted Punjab finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal told his friends. Within 12 hours of his posting this comment on social networking site Facebook’s wall, over 200 friends responded by calling Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s nephew the “future CM” and asking him to “take care of Punjab”.

Responding to the massive response from his friends, the expelled legislator of the ruling SAD further wrote,“I promise that once the first phase of the Yatra concludes with a conference at Maaghi Mela in Sri Muktsar Sahib on January 14,2011,I will interact with all of you and also reply to the messages that I have received so far and the ones I get now on. Please keep providing me your valued inputs as they encourage me and help me to keep up with my resolve to serve our motherland.”

“Future CM sahib, please concentrate on your job…. Please save our Punjab and make it as prosperous as possible so that posterity can remember your name. Please take the state again to the number 1 position and make its people happy with your ideas,” wrote Manpreet’s friend Sarbjit Singh. Another friend Manpuneet Chauhan felt,“You are the revolution we have all been waiting. Don’t break our trust.”

“We want change,” wrote Diljit Singh.

Sumeet Dhawan advised,“People expect an agenda and are of the opinion that Manpreet will have to align with some party. Single-handed efforts have less impact in a multi-party democracy. Secondly, until you have a good alliance with the SGPC,which plays a vital role in Akali politics, things will be challenging.”

One of Manpreet’s NRI friends wrote,“Dear Manpreet,As a part of the Indian diaspora living abroad,we often get frustrated with this mess created by scandalous governments… I hope you are fed up too and want a real change… If that is what you look forward to where governments are accountable… we are with you.”

“Politics is a very dirty game but it is the need of the time that you lead the state from the front to clear the garbage of corruption and dirty leaders,” commented Devinder Pal Singh Baring. Raman Mohan desired,“Be a whiff of fresh political air in Punjab.”

Mandy Singh,a Manpreet fan from Sydney, wrote,“Punjab needs an honest, brave, fighter and pushing leader like you for its survival.”

Another piece of advice came from Vikramjeet Singh, who wrote,“Connect with the masses and feel their pain and problems. Never laugh at or mock a poor man who comes to you with any problem. Listen him out and then help him. You will see that he will adore and love you… Their demands are small and they always want instant help. Do that and we have a winner.”
