Sector-23 residents protest against dumping of garbage in the area

High drama was witnessed near the Sector-23 dumping ground on Sunday afternoon when a truck arrived for unloading garbage.

High drama was witnessed near the Sector-23 dumping ground on Sunday afternoon when a truck arrived for unloading garbage. Even as the garbage was dumped, the residents warned the driver against such actions in the future.

As soon as the truck arrived at the premises, the residents gathered around the driver and started arguing with him. “By that time, however,he had already unloaded the garbage.

So we let him off with a warning to not repeat it in the future. We,however, have our doubts that the civic body would pay any heed to our request even this time round,” said a resident.

This is not the first time that residents have got into an argument with MC employees in this regard.

“We have given numerous complaints to the civic body and had also prevented trucks from unloading at the site earlier.

The administration needs to take concrete action in the matter. Living with stench of the entire township’s waste is unbearable,” said R K Sehgal, another resident.

The residents from Sectors 23,24,25,26 and 27 had earlier also asked the Administration,Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and the civic body to shift the dumping site from Jhuriwala to some other place.

The residents, meanwhile, claimed the garbage in the area posed a health hazard for them.

No action was, however, taken, alleged the residents, saying they were left with no options but to protest against the dumping of waste here.

Last month, the Haryana State Pollution Control Board had also rapped the local civic bodies for not shifting the dumping site from Jhuriwala.

It had asked them to comply with the orders of shifting the site at the earliest as the area was posing a major health risk to residents.

This even as the board had sent repeated reminders earlier, but without much consequence.
