Estate office has given occupants 25 days to rectify the violations
The UT Estate Office opened the building of SCO 173-74 in Sector 17 on Saturday. The building was sealed three days ago under the Chandigarh Estate Rules, which were recently amended. The occupants have been given 25 days to rectify the violations.
It was unsealed in the presence of functionaries of the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM). The sealing had sparked off agitation by traders, led by the CBM. It was followed by a two-hour bandh and a rally was also organised on April 29.
Subsequently,a CBM delegation led by chairman Charanjiv Singh and president Diwakar Sahoonja held a meeting with Administration officials.
Virender Guleria, president of the Progressive Trader Association of Sector 17,thanked the
CBM for timely intervention and getting the premises restored.
Sahoonja termed the reopening of the building as victory of the traders unity. He appealed to the Administration to keep a sympathetic view and take the CBM into confidence before amending existing laws or bringing new notifications concerning traders of the city.
