The residents of Sector 21 met the UT finance secretary and chief architect,expressing concern about the proposal to acquire land in residential areas for construction of a metro station.
The chief architect has assured the delegation that the acquisition of land in the residential areas will be avoided wherever possible.
According to the detailed project report,for construction of some stations,land in the residential areas has been suggested for acquisition. The residents of Sector 34 had earlier met the Chief Architect with similar doubts.
In Sector 21,one of the entry/exit points of the underground station proposed near Aroma lightpoint would be in the residential area. The report has suggested some land in the residential area that could be acquired. The draft of the Metro Report was shown to the delegation.
Sachin Sharma, a resident of the sector,says that the chief architect has assured them that land would be acquired only where essential. He added that they have been asked to submit a memorandum that would be sent to DMRC for consideration.
Discussion was also held that no tampering should be done with Le Corbusier’s plan for the city and the original character be preserved. They were informed that the heritage character of the city should be kept in mind during preparation of the report. Metro would be underground within the sectoral grid and would be elevated in the peripheral areas.
