The claims of the authorities to make the examination free of cheating fell flat on Tuesday when washrooms of Post-Graduate Government College,Sector 11,were found littered with micro slips of reading material and handwritten answer chits.

Micro slips are the xerox copies of pages from books or subject notes in a reduced form of the actual size of the text. The presence of such material has raised serious concern that some of the students might have made use of such slips while taking the examination. However,no unfair means case (UMC) was registered on Tuesday.

The final examination,of the under-graduate and post-graduate courses for the session 2012-13 in the Panjab University and its affiliated colleges, commenced on April 2. In 2011,the PU had registered 250 UMC cases from across all its examination centres while just 100 cases were registered in 2012.

When a team of Chandigarh Newsline visited the washrooms, all toilets, urinals, washbasins and toilet flushes were seen strewn with all sort of micro photocopies of chapters and helping books also known as guides.

However, the PU examination authorities said that they were not aware of any such material lying in the washrooms.

Admitting that students do make use of unfair means to cheat in the examination, college principal J S Raghu said,“We are aware of the problem. I have called the list of superintendents and deputy superintendents. From tomorrow onwards,we will be putting more people on duty.”

When contacted,Controller of Examination,Panjab University,Dr Parvinder Singh said,“I had deployed five teams which visited various examination centres. We did not come to know about Sector 11 college. Had we been informed about it,we would have taken note of such activity taken action against the wrongdoers.”
