There was a ruckus at the Fortis Hospital in Mohali on Friday after a man claimed that his mother was about to be administered an expired injection.
According to 38-year-old Kanwardeep,a nurse was about to inject his 66-year-old mother Balbir Kaur when he along with other family members noticed that the label on the injection indicated that it had expired a year ago.
Immediately,Kanwardeep says,he caught hold of the injection and questioned the nurse about it.
By this time, other staff members had gathered at the spot and the the 38-year-old says that they even tried to take the injection and the label from his possession forcibly.
My mother was admitted about 8 days ago as she had severe fever. Later the doctors at the hospital told us that it was typhoid. However, her treatment was almost over and she was to be discharged tomorrow. But a day before being discharged,if she could be administered an expired injection,we are wondering what treatment she would have got here all these days. What if something had happened to my mother if we would not have got hold of the expired injection? Kanwardeep said while speaking to Chandigarh Newsline.
Meanwhile,a complaint in this regard has been submitted to the Phase 8 police station. Police officials say they cannot register a DDR until a drug inspector certifies that the injection had expired.
Officials at the hospital on the other hand say they are looking into the matter. An official spokesperson of Fortis Hospital,Mohali, said,We have indeed received a complaint by the family members of the patient Balbir Kaur and we are investigating the matter.
