Last week,an addition was made to Udaipurs City Palace Museum,in the form of a new music gallery. Located in Zone D,Zenana Mahal,of the museum,the gallery,which opened on May 20,is called Symphony of Mewar. In it,23 musical instruments that once belonged to members of the Mewar royal family will be on public display.
Some of the instruments such as tablas,sitars,harmoniums,kamayachas,are over 100 years old. This gallery is just another step towards preserving Mewars living heritage, said Arvind Singh Mewar,Chairman and Managing Trustee of Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation (MMCF) and the 76th Custodian of the House of Mewar. The foundation of this music gallery at City Palace is connected to the project of preserving our heritage.
Celebrating Husain
Paying a tribute to legendary Indian artist Maqbool Fida Husain,Christies art auction house will hold a sale of his works. To be held on June 11,the works to go under the hammer highlight a key period in Husains career. The works will be sourced from the Bhownagary Family Collection of the former film advisor of the Indian government,Jehangir Bhownagary. A part of the Indian Art Week in London that will see the sale of other modern Indian masters like VS Gaitonde. One of the works that is expected to fetch a high price (GBP 400,000-600,000) approx. Rs 3 cr-Rs 5 cr,is Ganga Jamuna from 1971.
