Ropar police on Sunday arrested four drug peddlers and recovered one kilogram of heroin, 143 grams of gold ornaments, Rs 1 lakh worth of cash and an SUV. Ropar Senior Superintendent of Police Vivek Sheel Soni said that on June 22, a police party of CIA staff had recovered 300 grams of heroin from accused Gaurav Kumar, aka, Happy alias Billa. The SSP added that during the interrogations of Gaurav and his accomplices, Sandeep Singh, resident of Nalagarh (Himachal Pradesh), and Sukhpreet Singh were also named as accused in the case. Sukhpreet Singh was arrested on June 25. The SSP further informed that acting on information received from Sandeep Singh, the other accused were arrested. He added that on July 20, Ropar police stopped a Toyota Fortuner and four people — Sohan Lal, Baljit Singh, Veer Singh alias Veeru and Poonam, aka Mona, who is the wife of Gaurav Kumar — were arrested and on checking, heroin was recovered. “With the arrest of these drug peddlers, police have achieved in breaking the chain of a wide drug network,” the SSP added. The SSP said that eight cases have already been registered against the main smuggler Sohan Lal at Sadar Banga Police Station, and he was also wanted in the recovery of 520 grams of heroin in Hoshiarpur.
