Another rocket shell was found by a scrap dealer on Monday. The shell was found in the dumpster of JP Garbage Factory,Sector 25,about 11 am,causing panic in the area.

The shell appeared to be old. The 21-inch-long shell weighed around 2.5 kg. On explosion,it could have caused damage in the radius of 1 km. But it was a dead shell and seemed to have missed its target when it was fired, said a police officer.

Police units,including the bomb disposal squad,operations cell,dog squad and crime branch rushed to the spot. The shell was taken to a vacant plot and the area was cordoned off.

Sub-Inspector Ajinder Singh said the Army officers at Chandimandir cantonment had been informed but due to prior engagements,the team would come on Tuesday to take the shell. The shell has been kept under police security till the Army officers take it for proper disposal, he added.

In the last few months,this is the fourth recovery of bomb shells from Chandigarh and adjoining areas.
