The auction of numbers of the series CH 01 AG failed to get much response, with just 20 numbers of the series being auctioned. It generated Rs 7.71 lakh for the Registering and Licensing Authority.
This was the first auction to be held after the UT Administration hiked the road tax rate. The highest amount of Rs 1.6 lakh was fetched by number CH01 AG 0009. Five applications were received for the number. Himgiri Cars Private Ltd bid the highest and were allotted the number.
Number 0001 of the series was auctioned for Rs 1.4 lakh. Kunal Bhadoo,a resident of Uppal Marble Arc,was the successful bidder. The other single digit numbers did not fetch high prices. The number 0002 was auctioned for Rs 16,000,0003 for Rs 15,200 and 0007 for Rs 80,000. The number 0032 was auctioned for Rs 65,000.
An official stated that with the road tax increasing, the auction did not receive a favourable response. Prior to the hike, the road tax in the city was among the lowest as compared to neighbouring states.
The lure of number 0001 also seems to be fading. During the auction of series CH01 AF,the number had fetched Rs 70,000. In the previous auctions, however the number had been fetching high amounts.
