While some spent lakhs considering them a good omen, others shelled out money to purchase fancy numbers as they corresponded to their anniversaries.
The auction of fancy numbers held by the Registering and Licensing Authority for the CH01AU series fetched Rs 40.32 lakh on Friday. A total of 115 numbers were to be auctioned but due to absence of some bidders,107 numbers were put to auction.
While some of the bidders were ready to shell a hefty amount because of their belief in numerology, there were others who wanted the number as it corresponded to the anniversary dates of their loved ones and few wanted it for their children.
The much sought after 0001 managed to get RLA Rs 6.25 lakh. Though there were four bidders for the coveted number,it was Pawan Kumar Mittal,a realtor from Chandigarh, who won the prized catch. He bought the number for his Toyota Fortuner.
We were planning to buy this number since my son wanted to have a special and unique number for his car. We applied for around eight times. Now,luckily,we got the number we actually wanted, Mittal told Chandigarh Newsline.
At the last auction in May this year, held for CH01AT series,0001 had gone under the hammer for a whopping Rs 9.1 lakh. It was bought by Raman Mittal of International Tractors Limited (Sonalika brand) for his Mercedes S class.
Besides, the second highest amount,Rs 3.2 lakh, was paid for the number CH 01 AU 0003 which was bought by Jagjit Singh Mann who bought it for his Audi A6. I used to have numbers of my other cars after my house number but this time I thought of changing it to my lucky number which is three, said Mann.
In the last series auctioned in May this year,CH 01 AT 0003 was bought by a company,Rahul Sales Limited, for Rs 4 lakh for a Range Rover sports model.
The third highest amount was given for CH 01 AU 0009 which went under the hammer for Rs 2.O5 lakh. It was bought by Joginder Singh.
I have bought this number for my Jaguar. It was gifted by my son who is a doctor in Canada. He wanted me to take an exclusive number, Singh told Chandigarh Newsline.
Amarjeet Kohli, who made a bid for 0012,said I have taken this number as my sons birthday falls on 12.
Another bidder who could not get his desired number said that he wanted it as he believes in numerology but could not get it as bidding went really high.
There were some lucky bidders who got their lucky numbers as the reserved prize only. Suuny Chawala who was bidding for 0018 got the number for mere Rs 11,000, just a thousand rupees more than the reserved price as other bidders abstained from bidding. Similarly, for 0021 too, there was only one bidder. So,the bidder got the number for Rs 11,000. At the last auction,RLA netted a revenue of Rs 38.67 lakh from this auctioning of 41 numbers.
