Residents of Kharar constituency invite MLA Gagan Mann to janata darbar on Sept 3
If she skips the meeting, we will march to CM’s residence, warns Chaudhary Shyam Lal

In a major escalation of their ongoing agitation, residents of Kharar constituency, under the leadership of senior Akali leader Chaudhary Shyam Lal, have announced a large public gathering in the form of an open Janata Darbar on September 3 at 10 am at Mullanpur Barrier, New Chandigarh. The local MLA, Anmol Gagan Mann, has been formally invited to attend and face the people directly.
Shyam Lal said that villagers from across Kharar, Kurali, and adjoining towns will participate in huge numbers. “For years, our pressing issues have been ignored. Roads are broken to the extent that daily commuting has become unbearable. Our foremost demand is immediate repair of old roads and construction of new ones,” he said.
Highlighting other grievances, he pointed out that several village approach roads have damaged bridges posing a serious threat to lives. “Without repairing these, it is impossible to connect villages with the outside world,” he said.
He also accused the government of attempting to forcibly seize 1,200 kanals of land in Nada village. “This land must be immediately restored to the rightful owners. Similarly, attempts to grab land in Majrian and Chhoti-Badi Naggal are causing serious unrest,” he added.
The protesters alleged illegal encroachments on panchayat, shamlat, and government lands in several villages. Shyam Lal declared that such actions would not be tolerated at any cost.
The janata darbar will also raise issues such as: Severe drinking water shortage in Kharar region, poor condition of roads and damaged infrastructure, non-allotment of new electricity and water connections in New Chandigarh, harassment of villagers by the Forest Department, lack of proper sewerage and stormwater disposal in Kharar, Kurali, and New Chandigarh, poor sanitation and waste management and problems arising from illegal colonies.
Issuing a stern warning, Shyam Lal said, “If MLA Gagan Mann refuses to attend and listen to the people, we will march to the Chief Minister’s residence. The Punjab government will be solely responsible for the consequences.”
Despite repeated attempts, the MLA was unavailable for comment.
