Anil Kumar,Secretary,Medical Education and Research (SMER) along with Director Principal,GMCH and representatives of Urban Planning and Engineering Department visited various medical institutes in the city,to decide a site for the Regional Institute of Allied Health Sciences (RIAHS).
The team visited the Block E of GMCH,Regional Institute of Mentally Handicapped (RIMH),Sector 31,Residential Area of GMCH in Sector 48 and the site of Regional Trauma Centre,Sector 53.
SMER visited Block E to monitor the progress of construction, where he urged everybody to hasten the progress of the construction and get Block E functional at the earliest.
Further,it was decided that Regional Institute of Allied Health Sciences (RIAHS) should not come up in the GMCH-32 complex as the area behind Block E should be developed as a sports-cum-recreational complex with some provision for car parking.
A state-of-the-art sports-cum-recreational complex may be constructed in this area, which could be similar to the Sports Complex that has been established in Manipal University. SMER also suggested that facilities established by the university can be inspected and a visit to Manipal be planned in the near future for this purpose, an official said.
He added that all this is important in view of the possibility of increase of MBBS admissions from 50 to 100 every year.
Anil Kumar also visited the Regional Institute of Mentally Handicapped (RIMH),Sector 31. The architect and an engineering department pointed out that an area of approximately two acres close to the road dividing Sector 31 from Industrial Area,Phase-II,and very close to Asha Deep Building and the roundabout can be considered for making the academic block of RIAHS.
The team also visited residential area of Sector 48. Two sites were proposed for RIAHS in Sector 48 and the final decision regarding construction of RIAHS complex-academic – as well as residential will be taken after reviewing the pros and cons of the above-mentioned sites.
