Reflections in colour

The works celebrate the various facets of love, life and freedom, along with all their imperfections.

It’s an introspective effort that Shifa Mahajan has chosen to call “Perfectly Imperfect”. According to the artist, her ongoing exhibition comprising 13 paintings depicts the personal, spiritual and professional life of an artist. Completed last year, the works include an extensive series on an artist’s life and a rich array of abstract work, all in Mahajan’s signature mix of oils, acrylics, textures and pigment.

The works celebrate the various facets of love, life and freedom, along with all their imperfections. Mahajan,a former investment banker,is unbounded by convention as she considers the whole world her canvas. Apart from walls and staircases, she has also painted on cars, ceramic pots, solar poles and canvas shoes.

The work Window to Soul depicts a cheerful bright facade and a tranquil soul unaffected by the turbulence outside. Juxtaposed Expression is a black-and-white work, depicting the vision of a woman who waits for her intuitive lover on whose arrival she shall beautify herself. The Joy of Lust is a reflection on how an artist sets his/her own standards and inherits nothing but a lust for acknowledgement.

The exhibition is on at Books and Brew,Sector 16,Chandigarh till April 21.
