Rafi-Madan REPLAY

It’s been 31 years since Mohamad Rafi,singing legend of the Indian film industry,breathed his last. July 31,1980 marked the end of the Rafi era. Almost three decades later,the family of legendary composer Madan Mohan,in order to commemorate Rafi’s 31st death anniversary,is releasing Kaise Kategi Zindagi — a collection of rare Rafi songs that were composed by Madan Mohan.

Mohan and Rafi were known for creating magic,and standing testimony to the fact are some of the most unforgettable songs that the two have done together. Be it Tujhe Kya Sunaoon Main Dilruba,Basti Basti Parbat Parbat,Main Nigahen Tere Chehre Se,Rang Aur Noor Ki Baraat,Kar Chale Hum Fida,Aapke Pehloo Mein or Yun Rootho Na Haseena,the two delivered 90 solos and 56 duets. Ten songs recorded in their lifetime remained unreleased since the films stopped midway. Later,seven of these were released in the form of an album called Tere Bagair — Madan Mohan,while three are available on http://www.madanmohan.in Some were also released on an LP.

Now,in collaboration with Yash Raj Music,all these ten songs are being compiled together on a CD titled Kaise Kategi Zindagi. Each of these songs has a story behind it. For instance,the song Har Sapna Ek Din Toote Is Duniya Mein is a philosophical song recorded in the early 70’s. The tune is typical Madan-style,and the song was sung by Rafi with great emotion. The cross of the song,Har Saathi Ek Din Chhoote Is Duniya Mein,rings true for both Madan and Rafi,since they left the music world during the prime of their careers. There are unreleased songs from films such as Pooja Ke Phool,Neela Akash,and other songs that didn’t find place in the album Tere Bagair. Incidentally,the death anniversaries of both the legends fall in July,and the album will be a tribute to both.
