In a landmark move towards strengthening student rights and safeguarding the democratic culture of Panjab University, Panjab University Students’ Union (PUSU) president Bhupinder Singh and Himachal Pradesh Students’ Union (HPSU) president Asim Charas Thursday announced a joint candidate for the upcoming student elections.

The two non-political student organisations declared Aryan Verma, a third year law student, as their consensus nominee. This collaboration reflects a united front aimed at reviving student activism, restoring the Senate, and protecting the integrity of Panjab University.

“Our decision to come together on a common platform is to ensure that the true spirit of student activism is preserved and strengthened,” said Bhupinder Singh, president of PUSU. “We want to put an end to the cross-voting culture that has weakened student representation and instead focus on issue-based politics.”

Echoing this sentiment, Asim Charas, president of HPSU, added: “This is not just about elections, but about creating a transparent and accountable environment where students’ voices matter. Together, we aim to restore the credibility of Panjab University’s democratic institutions.”

The leaders highlighted that their primary goals are the restoration of the Senate, the revival of student-centric activism, and the elimination of divisive practices that compromise the student community’s strength.

With this joint declaration, PUSU and HPSU have taken a decisive step towards building a united, responsible, and student-driven future at Panjab University.
