The hunt for the ‘Big Boli Star’ is now in full swing with auditions kicking off across the state. The Chandigarh leg of the contest for the show,Big Boli Star,organised by radio station Big FM and TV channel Spark Punjabi with an aim of reviving traditional boliyaan,saw a huge turnout at the auditions held at Government College of Art in Sector 11.From college students to homemakers,amateur singers to just about anyone with witty one-liners queued up to present their out-of-the box versions of contemporary bolis. Among them was a band of boys more popularly known as the ‘Punjabi Kolaveri’ singers who have shot to fame by rendering their version of the hit number Kolaveri Di. The Pinky Mogewali singers kept the spirits up as hopefuls presented their bolis. “It’s a one of a kind contest and a good platform for singers too,” remarked 51-year-old Harpreet Kaur,a homemaker from Mohali,who was a popular contender. However,Shabnampreet Kaur and Avtar Singh walked away as winners of the Chandigarh auditions. Over 75 contestants participated in the auditions,including five students from the Institute for the Blind. The Chandigarh winners will now join the shortlisted contestants from the auditions held in Amritsar,Jalandhar,Patiala,Ludhiana and Jammu and vie for the title of ‘Big Boli Star’ at the finales to be held in Chandigarh,which will be telecast on Spark Punjabi. The show,which will be hosted by 92.7 BIG FM RJ,Dhanveer,will be judged by the well known folk singers Gurmeet Bawa and Lachi Bawa.
