One Man who allegedly pretended to be a member of Lawrence Bishnoi Gang for extortion, has been arrested on Sunday by Punjab Police’s State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) at TDI Wellington City in Sector 117, Mohali.
The police said the extortion module was active in Mohali, Chandigarh, and their adjoining areas. The arrested accused is identified as Vishal Kumar (19), a resident of Maloya in Chandigarh, who was working at a local salon.
Police teams have also recovered one .32 bore pistol along with two live cartridges from his possession.
AIG SSOC Mohali Ashwani Kapur said following several reports of extortion attempts and threatening phone calls made by an individual claiming affiliation with the Bishnoi gang, Punjab Police launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
After gathering intelligence, the police teams were able to identify Vishal and his aide Kashmir Singh alias Bobby of village Ghangroli in Samana, Patiala, as the prime suspects, he added.
After receiving credible inputs, AIG said, police teams from SSOC raided possible hideouts of suspects and arrested Vishal from TDI Wellington City, when he was going to meet Bobby, who was suspected to have taken shelter in the area. However, Kashmir alias Bobby could not be arrested, and a manhunt is ongoing to nab him.
The AIG said Bobby used to make extortion and threat calls to the affluent people including the owners of night clubs and bars in Chandigarh, Mohali and other adjoining areas, while, Vishal would intimidate them for extortion money.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that accused Vishal and Bobby had also attacked the house of Mohali’s SKULL club owner on May 11 to extort money from him, Kapur further said.
