The district court in Mohali, Punjab, on Wednesday dismissed an anticipatory bail application filed by former deputy superintendent of police Gursher Singh Sandhu in a forgery case registered by the state crime branch last year.
Sandhu was dismissed from service last month by the state government for allegedly facilitating an interview of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi with a news TV channel in jail.
Sandhu was booked by the crime branch last year under sections 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code.
The dismissed DSP filed the anticipatory bail application on January 10, following which the court issued a notice to the Government. On Monday, the court directed the prosecution to produce records pertaining to the case and deferred the decision to the next date of hearing.
Last week, the police issued a lookout circular against Sandhu.
