Punjab Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira booked for threatening woman soon after securing bail in drugs case
The woman alleged that some people had come to her house with their faces covered and warned her of consequences if she gave a statement against Khaira

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday allowed regular bail to Punjab Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira in a 2015 drugs case but the Kapurthala police booked him in a case of threatening and criminal intimidation soon after.
The Subhanpur police station registered the case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 195A (threatening any person to give false evidence) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against Khaira complaint of Ranjit Kaur, wife of Kashmir Singh, a resident of Dograwal and one of the co-accused in the case filed under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act .
The case involved the recovery of 2 kg of heroin, 24 gold biscuits, one country-made pistol, a .315-bore pistol and two Pakistani SIM cards. Khaira was arrested on September 28, 2023, after a raid at his bungalow in Chandigarh, on the complaint of Kashmir Singh.
In her complaint, Ranjit Kaur stated that four or five men had come to her house with their faces covered with cloth and threatened her that she would have to face consequences if she gave a statement against Khaira.
Mehtab Khaira, son of Sukhpal Khaira, said this case was filed as part of a conspiracy to arrest his father. He asked if Khaira was still in jail and how he could threaten anyone or intimidate anyone. He said they would take legal recourse and hoped they would get justice.
MLA from the Bholath constituency in Kapurthala, Khaira also serves as the chairman of the All India Kisan Congress.
