Punjab: 10-year-old dies in Ludhiana following fatal attack by stray dogs

A ten-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs at Hansapur village of Ludhiana district, Sunday. The boy’s last rites were performed at the village, Monday.

The boy, identified as Arjun Ram, was a native of Bihar. The Ludhiana Rural police said that the migrant family, hailing from Saran district of Bihar, was currently residing in Hasanpur.

Inspector Amritpal Singh, SHO, Mullanpur Dakha police station, said that the boy was brutally attacked by a pack of stray dogs near the carcass ground when he was chasing a kite.

Police said that Arjun lived with his family in makeshift huts outside the village. On Sunday, while playing outside his home, he noticed a kite and ran chasing it. The chase led him to an open plot near the village carcass ground where a pack of ferocious stray dogs attacked him.

Terrified by the attack, the child’s two friends ran back to the village but were too scared. It was only when a passer-by noticed Arjun’s body that the villagers were alerted. An announcement was made at a local gurdwara asking villagers to identify the body. When the victim’s father Shankar Ram heard the announcement, he went to see the body and was shocked to see his son lying dead.

DSP (Dakha) Varinder Singh Khosa said that police went to verify the details of the incident after villagers informed police about the tragic incident.
