Announcing this during the inauguration of an advanced computer system at the Physics Department,Vice-Chancellor Prof R C Sobti said the university was in the process of encouraging young and dedicated talent.
All the departments would be asked to identify such talent and encourage them in research work. The university can consider to fund this scheme under the PURSE grant. The number of students to be inducted and remuneration to be provided would be decided after discussions over the proposal sent by the departments, said Prof Sobti.
Prof Sobti inaugurated a high-performance computing cluster, which is a form of super computer, having 48 computers integrated in a single system. This would be accessible to research scholars and teachers through their terminals in their classrooms in the department. The university has spent around Rs 10 lakh on this system. Another one lakh would be spent on the automated entry for the lab where this is placed.
There should be an automated entry system with either smart card, retina identification system or bio-metric system. This would be aimed at making the system accessible to those who are authorised to, added Prof Sobti.
The students as well as faculty members have been given training on how to use the system through experts. This would be beneficial for the students who would no longer require to visit centers outside the university to access such a high speed computing device. The students present on the inauguration were seen excited about the newly inducted advanced system in their department. They expressed that this is a great achievement for the university and the department. It would leave a precedent in the upgradation of technology and its induction in education system.
