Being the last day to submit nominations,withdrawals and objections against the first draft of the shortlisted students,many candidates of the city colleges of Panjab University filed their final nominations on Saturday. While many of the students withdrew their names,in some cases nominations were cancelled due to shortage of attendance,failure to clear exams and gap between course years. In DAV College Sector 10,six posts of president,two for vice-president,five for general secretary and an unopposed post for the joint secretary were approved by the college authorities. Dean Students Welfare (DSW) of the college,Satish Gandhi said,After we displayed the first list of the shortlisted candidates yesterday. We got around nine objections,and we gave them ample time to check their own attendance registers. Only two candidates were eligible. Most of them had short attendance,which is why they couldnt fulfil the election requirements. After the PUSU and SOPU candidates filed their objections at DAV college Friday evening,both of the parties managed to get their presidential posts approved by the authorities. Gurbaksh Singh Maan from PUSU and Amandeep Singh from SOPU has been selected as candidates for the posts of president. NSUI also got two names approved - Gurpreet Singh for the post of president and Aishwarya Rana for the post of general secretary. The other posts have been allotted to the parties in alliance,HSA and HIMSU. At the Government College Sector 11,three posts each for the president,vice-president,secretary and the joint secretary have been approved by the Deans Students Welfare. At SGGS College Sector 26,the competition is mainly left between the two parties as most of the parties have made an alliance. NSUI has made an alliance with three other parties - SOPU,HSAA and CSU,whereas the Khalsa College Students Union (KCSU) made an alliance with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Students Organisation of India (SOI). The PUSU party is not contesting the elections this year in the college. According to the DSW of the college,Kulwinder Singh,Many students withdrew their names from the nominations today as the parties have made an alliance. We also cancelled five nominations as their age was above the limit required to contest the elections. Harshdeep Singh Shergil from KCSU and Gurwinder Singh from NSUI,in alliance with HSA,CSU and SOPU,have been approved for the post of the president. At SD College,Sector 32,four posts of the PUSU have been approved. Arwinder Singh for the post of the president,Gurvinder Singh for the post of vice-president,Himani for joint secretary and Ravneet Dhaliwal for the post of general secretary. SOPU has got only one of its members,Harpreet Singhs name for the post of president. While in the girls college,there were no objections or withdrawals. At Government College for Girls,Sector 11,Bindu Bala and Navreet Kaur have been nominated for the post of president while,Amandeep Kaur,Amanveer Kaur and Ashna Singh have been nominated for the post of vice-president. At the MCM DAV College,Sector 36,Tanya Tandon and Shivangi were nominated for the post of president,while Maninder Kaurs name was announced for the post of vice-president.
