PU okays increase in seats for BCom

Panjab University (PU) gave its nod to the proposal sent by three colleges of the city to increase the number of seats in BCom first year by 70 each. The number of BCom-I seats has now increased to 2,310.

Approval for the same was granted in a meeting of   the Academic Council of the varsity, which was scheduled for Wednesday.

GGDSD College, Sector 32 (co-ed), now has 350 seats, which is the maximum so far for any PU affiliated college in the city.

The number of seats has gone up to 280 in MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, and 210 in Guru Gobind Singh College for Women (GGSCW) in Sector 26. The proposal was motivated by the increasing demand for BCom in the city colleges.

Meanwhile, the centralised counselling for BCom-I will begin at Law Auditorium, PU, on Thursday.

As many as 6,845 students from across the country will be competing for 2,310 seats of BCom in 11 colleges in the city and Department of Evening Studies, PU.

BCom-I admission co-ordinator, Professor R K Gupta, has called upon the students to be present at the time of counselling and bring 10+2 certificates, proof for claim of reserved category, character certificate from the institution last attended and one set of self attested photocopy of the documents.

In case of any gap in studies or in the case of a single girl child, students will be required to submit an affidavit that is attested by a Class I magistrate.

Students will have to pay the fee on spot, and therefore the varsity has advised students to bring around Rs 18,000 as fee for private colleges and Rs 8,000 for government colleges. No extra time will be given for the same, said the PU spokesperson.
