In a significant decision,the Panjab University has lifted the cap of five years for appearing in improvement exam. Now,a student can appear in the exam at any time and for multiple numbers of times.
The decision was taken in the Syndicate meeting on Saturday. The proposal was raised by Fellow Prof Dinesh Talwar. It will be implemented from the next academic session.
The Syndicate also approved a proposal under which the re-evaluation fee of students would be refunded if marks after
re-evaluation increase by 15 per cent.
In another significant decision,the Syndicate approved implementation of the credit-cum-grading system for all professional courses. Under the system,students will be awarded grades,which will reduce the number of those failing in the exams. The system will be implemented from the current academic session.
Also,the Syndicate approved the Teachers Evaluation proposal.
Vice-Chancellor Prof R C Sobti said the new pay scales had been implemented,so would be the proposal,as it was a mandatory guideline of the UGC. Earlier,Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) had objected to the proposal,saying that students cannot evaluate teachers.
Further,the Syndicate withdrew the MCA course from S D College,Sector 32 earlier,the AICTE had withdrawn its affiliation after the college had provided fraudulent data.
Professor Sobti said the 60 students would be allowed to complete their course in PU. The college has been directed to pay the fee (Rs 3,900,000) collected from students.
The Syndicate refused permission to DAV College to start the MBA course once again. The Vice-Chancellor said their example was no better than that of the SD College.
Also,extraordinary leaves without pay were approved for six PU teachers.
