The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has taken a serious note of allegations of shortcomings in publishing textbooks of different subjects and its chairman has marked an inquiry into the whole episode.
Retired district and sessions judge O P Garg will conduct an inquiry into the matter.
He has called all employees of the publishing wing on the September 26.
Highly placed sources in the Punjab School Education Board said that the latest shortcoming of the publishing wing of the board is an example of mischief by the head of the department and is not a scam as projected by critics.
Apparently, the Board had followed the necessary procedure in allotting publishing order to the firms, but the same couldnt be intimated to the printing firms as the head of the publishing wing had not signed the agreements whereas the firms already had. The head of the publishing wing had ordered the employees of his department to proceed by supplying negatives and CDs etc and not to insist for the copies of the agreement.
Earlier, the printers,in a joint letter addressed to the PSEB chairman had said that the matter of job security and paper security was not an issue because the Board has to refund huge amounts deposited by them for previous assignments.
When contacted, the Media and Liaison officer of the Punjab School Education Board said,There is only the vested interest of the officials which have brought a bad name to the Board in this context. There is nothing like a scam in the issue, rather there is some hidden agenda which shall come out in the open after the inquiry report is completed.
