A 76 years old resident of Sector 32,a former managing director of Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC),died after he was hit by a bus of the corporation when he was walking home with his wife on Thursday afternoon.
Rakesh Pal, who served the PRTC for several years before he retired as its managing director a few years ago,was hit by the Sirsa-bound PRTC bus around 2 pm at the light point of Sector 46 and 48. He was seriously injured in the accident and taken to the Sector-32 government hospital,where he was declared dead on arrival.
The former director of PRTC was walking to his house in Sector 32 with his wife Ravikanta. The couple was crossing the road when the bus (PB 31 F 1392) knocked him badly.
The police arrested the driver,Bhola Singh,but the family members of the deceased declined to register a case against him,said Harjinder Singh,the investigating officer.
The family demanded that the body be handed over to them without any criminal action against the driver,the police said. Pal is survived by his wife and family of his son,who works at a financial firm in Delhi.
