Protesting teachers gherao Mann’s house in Sangrur, clash with police
Senior vice-president of the Meritorious Union, Vipneet Kaur, said that the claims of the AAP government, which is in power, of bringing an education revolution in Punjab were "hollow."

The protesting teachers from the Meritorious Teachers Union gheraoed the residence of Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann Sunday, broke the barricades and clashed with police.
These protesting teachers, serving since years at the residential government schools in Punjab, especially created for meritorious students during the SAD-BJP government, have been demanding regularisation of their jobs. They demand regularisation in the education department, arrears and pay hike.
Dr Tina, state president, Meritorious Teachers, said that in several meetings, finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema and education minister Harjot Singh Bains have agreed to regularise them in the education department but the implementation of the decision has been delayed.
A clash with the cops ensued as teachers were stopped from moving towards the CM’s residence.
Dr Tina said that CM Bhagwant Mann was the president of these special schools as they were directly under him. “Even then, the CM has not held a single meeting with the meritorious teachers,” she said.
Senior vice-president of the Meritorious Union, Vipneet Kaur, said that the claims of the AAP government, which is in power, of bringing an education revolution in Punjab were “hollow.”
“The government has not fully released the pending arrears, not even increased salaries of the meritorious teachers. The government is ignoring our demands, and the good results of the teachers are not being appreciated. The salary increase in the last 10 years has been negligible,” she said.
The teachers shouted slogans against the Punjab government and marched towards the barricade. They insisted that a meeting be scheduled with Mann. They continued to protest outside the CM’s residence in the evening till the filing of this report.
