In more ways than one,it was a night to remember.

In more ways than one,it was a night to remember. Mic malfunctions,a small train of celebrities and mismanagement made the evening of the PTC Punjabi Film Awards quite “entertaining”. The surprise winner was the small-budget Raula Pai Gaya, which took home the Best Story prize.

The top scorers were Baljeet Singh Deo’s Mirza: The Untold Story and Navaniat Singh’s Jatt & Juliet. Mirza also bagged awards in cinematography, music direction (Jatinder Shah and Yo Yo Honey Singh),best performance in negative role (Rahul Dev),best debut male (Honey Singh) and best actor (critics award) Gippy Grewal. Last year’s game changer Jatt & Juliet won awards for best screenplay (Dheeraj Rattan),popular song (Pooja kiven aa),best actor (Diljit Dosanjh),best actress (Neeru Bajwa),supporting actress (Upasna Singh) and best director (Navaniat Singh).

Carry on Jatta, too, won recognition in editing, dialogues, comic role (Binnu Dhillon and Jaswinder Bhalla),supporting actor (Gurpreet Ghuggi) as well as the critics’ award for best director (Smeep Kang). As she collected the lifetime achievement award for her late husband Jaspal Bhatti,Savita Bhatti talked about how Jaspal always believed in impactful cinema. Despite being nominated

in various categories,Bhatti’s last film Power Cut,a satire on Punjab politicians and electricity boards, got no awards.

The late Dara Singh was also honoured with a lifetime achievement award. Ignoring the controversies shrouding his body of work,PTC

honoured rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh with a best debut male award for Mirza. Singh’s performance at the event, however, ran into acoustics trouble. The red carpet was graced by Sunny Deol,Raveena Tandon,Vindu Dara Singh,PTC Network Director and CEO Rajiee M Shinde and PTC Network President R Narayan, producer Rahul Mitra,Jimmy Sheirgill and Mahie Gill among others. Himesh Reshammiya,Jazzy B,Claudia Ciesla,Monica Bedi,Roshan Prince and Geeta Zaildar kept the evening alive with their performances along with anchors Dosanjh and comedy star Kapil Sharma. EFS
