Police beat up SSA teachers in education minister’s village

Gurdaspur police cane-charged hunderds of teachers recruited under Sarv Sikhya Abhiyan at Sekhwan.

Gurdaspur police today cane-charged hunderds of teachers recruited under Sarv Sikhya Abhiyan at Sekhwan,the native village of Punjab’s Education Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan. Although no one was injured seriously,many teachers,including women,claimed their hair were pulled and some of them bore bruises while others had fractured limbs.

When more than 300 teachers intent on blockading the village assembled,officials claimed the police used mild force to disperse them.

However,teachers alleged the police used heavy force and they were forced to crawl. The teachers organised the protest under the aegis of Sikhya Karmi Punjab Union.
