At PGI’s Department of Radiology, a component of the paediatric CT machine has developed a technical fault, leading to the temporary suspension of a few specialised examinations such as paediatric cardiac CT and dual energy applications. Routine paediatric CT scans, however, continue without interruption.

The hospital spokesperson clarified that the issue has been present since September 10, and assured that all essential examinations are being carried out on time. The required part has already reached India and is likely to be installed within the next 48 hours, after which the machine will be fully operational. “Patient care remains our highest priority, and no disruption is being allowed in routine services,” the spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMCH), Sector 16, two X-ray units have not been functioning for a couple of days, and only portable X-ray facilities are available in wards and ICUs, affecting the daily output of 400 to 450 X-rays, with many orthopaedic patients getting scans from private facilities. The two digital machines are a decade old, and are not under the annual maintenance contracts. As per Dr Suman Singh, Director, Health Services, the repair work is underway, and replacement takes time. “GMCH requires at least four X-ray machines to meet its patient load, and procurement is being expedited.”
