Not giving a clean chit to the resident doctor facing allegations of molesting the wife of a patient,PGI has now asked the administrative committee headed by the deputy director administration to hold further inquiry into the matter.
The departmental committee headed by Professor Jyotsna Wig,Head of the Department of Anaesthesia submitted its fact finding report on Monday and recommended further action against the doctor,it is learnt.
The incident took place in the early hours of March 30 at the main ICU block at the Nehru Hospital where a woman, whose husband was admitted in the ICU ward, alleged that Dr Vikas,a senior resident doctor with the anaesthesia department molested her on the pretext of explaining her how to administer a particular drug.
The hospital, after receiving a written compliant, had asked the HoD and two other doctors to look into the matter and submit a report.
Sources said while the report had been submitted to the director, the formal administrative inquiry had now been started at the level of the deputy director.
The fresh deadline for completion of the inquiry has not been fixed yet.
We are inquiring into the matter before taking any action. The formal inquiry has begun, said PGI spokesperson Manju Wadwalkar.
After the incident came to light, the PGI had transferred the accused doctor from the ICU to the Advanced Eye Centre.
A similar incident had taken place in 2001 when a paramedic was accused of molesting an 18-year-old unconscious girl admitted at the ICU.
The PGI had let the erring employee get away with a very light punishment, after sitting on the inquiry report for two months.
