Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) on Wednesday wrote to the Chandigarh health services director, asking the latter to take action against Jindal IVF and Sant Memorial Nursing Home,Sector 20,Chandigarh.

The Panchkula police submitted that the Hoshiarpur woman, who was allegedly raped and murdered by MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary, underwent abortion at the said nursing home. This was conveyed to the Punjab and Haryana High Court by the Panchkula police, during the resumed hearing of a petition filed by the father of the deceased,Buti Ram.

Ram had submitted a petition in the high court, demanding a CBI probe into his daughter’s alleged murder.

“The documents pertaining to the abortion have been obtained from the hospital. While enclosing the documents concerned,a letter seeking court’s opinion on whether the abortion conducted by the doctors of the nursing home was legal was also submitted. If any irregularity in this regard is found, then you are authorised to initiate proceedings,as the matter falls under your jurisdiction,” read the letter that was sent by the Panchkula police to director of health services, earlier this month.

In another development, the Panchkula Police told the high court that the video recording of the day the deceased had visited the nursing home was missing from the DVR of the medical centre. In this regard, notice was issued to the managing director of the nursing home to “know the reasons for data missing from the DVR,as the technician had stated that data would be stored in the DVR for at least 45 days”.

The Panchkula police,in its status report, submitted that the “possibility of deletion of data by accused in connivance with hospital staff to destroy evidence cannot be ruled out. Hence,DVR was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Haryana for recovery of deleted data,if any”. The DVR was sent to the laboratory by the Panchkula Police on May 20.

The police also quizzed Charanjeet Singh Channi,MLA,Chamkaur Sahab,Punjab, whose visiting card was found in the purse of the deceased. Channi told the police that he did not know the victim and he was unaware of how his visiting card reached her.
