Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) women councillors “pushed aside” Congress leader Pawan Bansal at Priyanka Gandhi’s rally on Sunday, in order to come forward on the stage. Bansal almost lost his balance and Gandhi had to ensure that he was brought ahead.

Gandhi was in Chandigarh to campaign for Manish Tewari, the candidate for the Congress-AAP alliance and other INDIA bloc parties, on Sunday.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi before leaving the venue after her speech, was waving at the crowd with Pawan Bansal on one side and Manish Tewari on the other, that Aam Aadmi Party councillors Prem Lata, Taruna Mehta and Anju Katiyal pushed Bansal back to share the stage with Priyanka.

Reacting to the incident, AAP councillor and leader Prem Lata told The Indian Express, “We were standing calmly, but Anju Katiyal came from behind and pushed us to come ahead . It all happened ‘jaane anjaane‘ (unknowingly). Bansal ji is our senior leader, and we have no intent to disrespect him. I started my career in the Congress party itself, and he is the one who made me what I am today. How can we disrespect such a leader?” She added, “And we very much respect the alliance too.”

It is the first time that Pawan Bansal shared the stage with Chandigarh Congress candidate Manish Tewari. Ever since the Congress announced the ticket for the Chandigarh seat, Bansal had not been campaigning for Tewari.
