Secure North 2011,a conference-cum-expo on internal security and disaster management was inaugurated by Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shivraj Patil at the CII Northern Region Headquarters here today. Speaking on the occasion,the Governor said that there are only about 13,000 police stations and 30 lakh policemen for the 1.2 billion population of the country. Both internal security and defence need long- term planning,and sustained cooperation between public and private sector enterprises,along with the civil society,he added.
Lt Gen S R Ghosh,General Officer Commanding-in-Chief,Western Command,highlighted that a strong,enduing militarily-industry partnership is required to concrete the efforts. A number of senior IPS officers and senior executives from the industry participated in the deliberations.
The conference called for developing a holistic approach for internal security by involving people at the local level and modernizing the security forces through better equipment and training of forces. A CII- MSSG report on Emerging Contours of Internal Security was also released at the conference.
A display of latest technologies like surveillance through mobile and computer technology,forensic software and hardware,negotiator robots for surveillance and reconnaissance,robot chassis and accessories,etc was also held. The display will continue for the next two days.
