Patients wait as doctors ‘on leave’ in Sec-22 polyclinic

Patients visiting the polyclinic in Sector 22 were left in a lurch on Monday as two paediatricians at the clinic are away on leave. After having waited in long queues to get an appointment with the doctor, patients were informed about the non-availability of the specialists.

“It was very annoying when I took my daughter for a check-up at the polyclinic in the morning. After I waited for over half an hour to make my way to the registration counter,I was told that none of the two paeditricians was available as both were on leave. Ideally, the authorities must have taken care to display at the counter that the doctors were not available today so that patients and their attendants were spared of the trouble of standing in the long queue,” said Alka,a city resident.

Similar thoughts were echoed by Kulbir Singh, who had taken a half-day from work to get his son examined but waited only to be told that the doctor was on leave.

“Certainly, this is a waste of time and authorities should be careful in future to inform the patients in advance. If we were told earlier,we could have taken our children to some other hospital,” he said.
