Passenger stabbed to death by robbers in running train near Jind

A railway passenger lost his life thwarting a robbery attempt inside a running train.

A railway passenger lost his life thwarting a robbery attempt inside a running train on Tuesday. He was stabbed to death when he tried to put up resistance as three robbers tried to snatch his bag,police said here. The incident took place around 3.15 am on Jammu-Tawi Express train between Jind and Uchana railway stations. The train runs between Chennal and Jammu.

The deceased is Nitin (24),a resident of Tuglakabad in Delhi. His friend and co-passenger,Manu Sharma (23),a resident of Basti Ujha Chowk of Jalandhar,was severely injured in the attack. He has been admitted in the Jind Civil Hospital. According to the railway police,the robbers jumped off the running train after stabbing Nitin,adding that they could not take away anything from any passenger. A case of murder has been registered.

After entering the train,eyewitnesses said,the robbers first tried to snatch the bag Nitin was carrying. As he resisted,they stabbed him. Manu was taking Nitin and their friend Vishal to Jalandhar from Delhi to attend a family function,said a railway police officer who suspected the hand of a local gang of robbers in the crime.
