Rich tributes were paid to the late Bibi Joginder Kaur,wife of former SGPC President Gurcharan Singh Tohra,at her Antim Ardas ceremony in her native village here today. People cut across party lines to pay homage to her.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Union Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur,besides the ousted Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal were among those present at Bibis Antim Ardas,alongwith a large number of Tohra supporters.
Preneet Kaur and Parkash Singh Badal were seen exchanging greetings at the function,which also saw the warring Badal cousins Sukhbir and Manpreet seated near each other for a while,though they neither spoke nor even greet each other. Sukhbir later shifted to another seat near the CM. Chief Minister Badal announced the setting up of a Community Centre in memory of Bibi in Tohra village,for which he also announced a grant of Rs 25 lakh. SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar said a religious research institute was being set up in memory of Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra at Bahadurgarh near Patiala.
Badal described Bibi Joginder Kaur as a noble and pious person committed to the values of life,Panthic traditions and social service.
She was a light house and a motivating force behind Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohras outstanding contribution, Badal said.
