Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa has written to Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, asking him to ensure that the action taken report regarding the involvement of corrupt police officers facilitating the rise in gangster activities is tabled in the assembly.

The Speaker has called a two-day session of the Assembly on February 24 and 25. The previous session in September was adjourned sine die and this session will be considered a continuance of the five-month-old session. Bajwa said that he is writing this letter on behalf of the opposition to address a matter of utmost importance and urgency regarding the integrity of the police force and the safety of Punjab citizens.

“You would kindly recall that during Zero Hour on September 2, 2024, you had expressed profound concern over the apparent laxity in addressing corrupt practices within the police force. Specifically, you highlighted the case of ASI Bohar Singh, posted in your constituency, Kotkapura, who was accused under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly receiving bribes from a known gangster, with the transactions traced to his bank account,” Bajwa said.

He reminded the Speaker that it was unanimously decided that the DGP should provide a detailed report on the matter. This decision underscores the House’s commitment to upholding integrity of our law enforcement agencies and ensuring justice for citizens, he said.

He added that due to the seriousness of the issue, which resonates with every peace-loving citizen of Punjab, it has become imperative for the government to address this challenge promptly.

“I also propose that a two-hour discussion be allocated for an in-depth discussion of the report to ensure a thorough examination and address any concerns that may arise,” he said.
