“The incident took place during a trial-cum-acclimatisation round on the first day. Losing balance while landing on the ground occurred frequently. The paraglider is absolutely fine and will perform tomorrow also,” Arun Rawat, organiser of the festival, said. The organisers said that the paraglider works for the defence.
Earlier, the expo was inaugurated by the CM’s Principal Advisor (Media) Naresh Chauhan. The inauguration ceremony began with a colourful cultural performance by local students from Junga, who presented traditional Pahari Natis, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh.
Following the inauguration, Chauhan flagged off the teams of national and international paragliders, officially declaring the Shimla Flying Festival 2025 open. On the first day, one trial-cum-acclimatisation round and a competitive round were completed.
The Shimla Flying Festival 2025, which also serves as a Pre-World Cup and Pre-Asian League Championship, looks to enhance Shimla’s reputation as a global destination for adventure sports and sustainable tourism. The concurrent Hospitality Expo provides a vital platform for micro-enterprises and self-help groups to showcase their products, fostering local entrepreneurship and craftsmanship.
