Panjab University (PU) on Tuesday celebrated its rich heritage, excellence and contribution of 143 years of dedicated service to society. PU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Renu Vig hoisted the university flag at the function organised by the PU National Service Scheme (NSS) at the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat. On this occasion, Vig administered a pledge to all participants, reaffirming the University community’s commitment to academic excellence, integrity, and social responsibility. Vig recalled that this university was established on October 1, 1947, in continuation of and as a successor to the University of the Punjab, which was founded on October 14, 1882, at Lahore. “Today we are remembering our roots and celebrating its rich heritage and contributions for 143 years.” Reflecting upon the illustrious journey of PU as one of the oldest centres of higher learning in India, the V-C remarked that Panjab University has stood as a beacon of knowledge, innovation and service to society. Referring to the university’s recent performance, she said that PU is consistently improving its position in all national and international rankings.
