Panjab University achieves 3rd rank among state universities, pharmacy institutions in NIRF 2025

The Panjab University, Chandigarh, has achieved a major milestone in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, as it has been placed third among all state public universities in the country and third among pharmacy institutions, marking a major achievement and a significant rise from its 2024 positions of fifth and seventh, respectively. PU has also improved to 35th slot among universities (up from 38th in 2024). Expressing appreciation for the faculty, staff, students, and research scholars, Vice-Chancellor Prof Renu Vig said, “It is a matter of great pride that Panjab University has secured the third position both among state universities and in pharmacy institutions in NIRF 2025 and that our university, overall, engineering and other rankings have continued to improve, with a first-time entry into the SDG category and sustained standing in innovation.”

Highlighting the significant improvements in all its ranking in the last two years, Prof Vig said, “On the global front, we have advanced into the 601–800 bracket in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 (up from 801–1000 in 2023) and moved from the QS 2025 ranking band of 1001–1200 to the 901–950 bracket in QS World University Rankings 2026, demonstrating consistent upward momentum. These recognitions across all the rankings validate our sustained commitment to academic excellence, impactful research, robust innovation, inclusivity, and societal engagement. We remain committed to further strengthening PU’s position on both the national and global academic map.”

 

2 Chandigarh colleges among

top 100 colleges in the country

Showcasing the city’s academic excellence, two Chandigarh colleges have been placed among the top 100 institutions in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025.  The Government Home Science College, Chandigarh, has achieved an outstanding 35th rank with a score of 62.18, marking a significant rise from its previous year’s 51st position. This is the seventh consecutive year that the college has featured among the top 100 institutions in the country. Similarly, Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32, has once again reaffirmed its excellence by securing the 70th position with an overall score of 57.44. This is the second consecutive year that the college has been placed among the top 100. The institution has performed remarkably across multiple parameters, including teaching, learning and resources (53.61), research and professional practice (35.95), graduation outcomes (82.36), outreach and inclusivity (73.99), and perception (26.07).

Other city colleges, DAV College, Sector 10 and MCM DAV College, Sector 36, have been placed in the rank band 101–200, while PGGCG-11 has been placed in the rank band 201–300. This year’s assessment saw participation from 4,030 colleges across the country, making the achievement of Chandigarh’s institutions even more commendable.

On this occasion, Prerna Puri, secretary education, UT Chandigarh, and Rubinderjit Singh Brar, Director Higher Education, congratulated the institutions on their remarkable accomplishments and lauded their consistent efforts in advancing academic excellence.
