The Panchkula police has claimed to have arrested a notorious criminal, Yograj alias Pinky, along with an illegal country-made pistol and five live cartridges. According to police, on June 29, while the detective staff team was patrolling the area, they received a tip-off that Yograj, a resident of village Majra Mehtab, Panchkula, was present near the cremation ground on Rambagh Road, Kalka, and was possibly planning a serious crime while armed. The team launched an operation and apprehended the accused. Upon searching him, the police recovered one illegal pistol and five live rounds. When asked to produce documents for the weapon, the accused failed to provide a valid licence. The weapon was seized on the spot and a case was registered against him under Section 25(1A) of the Arms Act at Kalka Police Station. According to DCP Crime Amit Dahiya, Yograj alias Pinky is a habitual and dangerous offender with 11 serious criminal cases — including charges of murder and assault — registered against him across Kalka, Pinjore, Baddi, and Narayangarh police stations. Police are now actively investigating his possible involvement in the Amravati murder case. Yograj was produced before the court on Monday and has been remanded in four days of police custody. During the remand period, police will interrogate him to determine where and from whom he acquired the illegal weapon, the intended purpose of the firearm, and identify other associates in his criminal network.
