Even as critics rave over director Kathryn Bigelows six-Academy Award winning film,The Hurt Locker, about the life of soldiers fighting the Iraq war, movie buffs in India have several weeks wait ahead to watch the film. We will release the film sometime in April, says a spokesperson for PVR Pictures, which is distributing The Hurt Locker in India.
For the other Oscar-winning films, fans are advised not to wait. Many of these will not see the theatres of India. Precious, directed by Lee Daniels, which won two Oscars, doesnt have any Indian distributor. Ditto for the Lone Scherfig-directed film,An Education, that was nominated for three Oscars. Some films do not have rights in every territory, says a spokesperson for Sony Pictures (India). Distributors Paramount Pictures have said that The Young Victoria, too, does not have rights in India. Will we get to see Jeff Bridges in his Oscar-winning role in the Crazy Heart? We are still not decided about the release of this film in India , says Vivek Krishnani, marketing head,Fox Searchlight Pictures.
