On her way to wedding venue,Ludhiana bride dies in accident

A Ludhiana resident died in a road accident on her wedding day on Wednesday. Priya Sharma (22) was on way to the venue in Chandigarh,where she was to marry an Australia-based NRI.

A Ludhiana resident died in a road accident on her wedding day on Wednesday. Priya Sharma (22) was on way to the venue in Chandigarh,where she was to marry an Australia-based NRI.

The wedding was to take place at Kukhrain Bhawan,Sector 35.

The bride and her family,who were travelling in a Santro car,met with an accident near ITI,Samrala,around 4 pm. The car,which was being driven by Priya’s brother Rajan Sharma,collided head-on with a speeding Tata Indica car,the police said.

Besides Priya and Rajan,their mother Nirmala Sharma,aunt and family friend Harvinder Kaur were travelling in the car.

The Indica car was being driven by a Ludhiana resident Anil Talwar,who was returning home after attending a seminar in Chandigarh. The police said Talwar tried to overtake another vehicle and collided with the Santro car.

The injured were rushed to a hospital in Samrala,from where they were referred to Dayanand Medical College,Ludhiana.

In the hospital,Priya was declared dead on arrival. The condition of other occupants of both the cars was critical till the filing of this report.

Guests kept pouring in

In Chandigarh,wedding preparations were on in full swing. Nitin Kapoor,the bridegroom,had spoken with Priya around 3 pm.

“She had told him they would leave for Chandigarh around 4.30 pm,” a relative told Newsline. “After the news of the accident reached,Nitin and his family members rushed to Ludhiana,where they received the tragic news of Priya’s demise.”

On the other hand,guests,unaware of the shocking incident,kept pouring in at the venue. It was only late in the evening that they heard that the bride had died.

“We were not aware of Priya’s death. It was only after we reached here that we learnt that the wedding has been cancelled because of the shocking incident. It is unbelievable,” a guest said.

Nitin (27) works with a multinational company in Australia. He had reached India a few weeks ago for his wedding.
