Now,PPP rides the Kolaveri Di wave

After numerous clones,it is now the turn of Manpreet Singh Badal led People’s Party of Punjab to ride the Kolavedri Di wave.

After numerous clones,it is now the turn of Manpreet Singh Badal led People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) to ride the Kolavedri Di wave.

The party and its president, known for being tech savvy, have uploaded a song, the lyrics of which have been adapted to the smash hit Kolavedri Di tune. The phrase Kolaveri Di in this song has been replaced by PPP. A hit among the net users, the song has recorded almost 30,000 hits within the first 24 hours of it being uploaded.

The song has been written and sung by Bhagwant Mann — a senior member of the PPP team and his associate Dilkhush. The opening lines of the song, which comprise of a couplet taken from a poem of well-known poet Dr Surjit Patar, have been sung by Manpreet himself. He calls upon the people saying,“Kee hoya je patjarh aayee,tu agli rutt ch yakin rakin, mein lab ke layana kitho kalma, tuun phoolan jogi jameen rakhin. (So what if the autumn has come, keep faith in the next season, let me get some saplings, you keep ground ready for flowers). Hoke mast malang chalange Manpreet de sang chalange.”

Following this is the main line of the song — Sade dillan vich vas gayee O PPP.PPP.PPP (PPP has come to stay in our hearts) Je Rangla Punjab hai bachuna, taan PPP nuun pao layona (If you want to save a prosperous Punjab then will have to bring PPP) Jooti Congress nale Akali,Manpreet dee hai soch nirlai, sade dillan vich vas gayee hai PPP (Both the Congress and the Akalis are liars, while Manpreet’s ideology is unique,PPP has come to stay in our hearts).”

Referring to Manpreet and the party’s commitment, the song adds “Jalianwale Bhag ch jaake, aye neo thon kasma khake, aao rangiaye rang basmati,aa jaave gee pher kranti. Sade Dillan vich vas gayee hai PPP (These people have taken an oath at Jalliwanwala Bhag, lets colour the state yellow and the revolution will follow).”

Though Bhagwant Mann claimed that “we have steered clear of throwing muck at any one and stuck to clean and a higher level of politics in this song,” the song does mention a “joothi Congress nale Akali,Manpreet dee hai soch nirlai” and towards the end urges the people to choose between “moti and manka.”

Interestingly, for the last choice, the video of the song throws up an old picture of Manpreet and his first cousin Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. The song also exhorts the public to come out an vote on January 30,with the PPP promising to “Chak deyange phate 30 January nuun”.

“This is our New Year gift to the people of Punjab. The idea came to my mind on the eve of New Year around 11 pm. Within the next one hour,we had the song recorded and even uploaded it. The result is for all to see,” said Bhagwant Mann.

The actor turned politician added: “Music and a pen have been the constant companions of every revolution. Our first Sikh Guru,Guru Nanak Dev carried Rabab with him. Shaheed Bhagat Singh used mera rang de basanti chola and even wrote articles. The list is long. We had cut an album earlier as well, which was well-received. People do not want to listen to long-winding lectures,we have to wrap up our message in an entertainment package.”
