A new train between Chandigarh and Patliputra or Patna will be starting from here on November 1. The biweekly train will depart from Chandigarh on Monday and Thursday while it will start from Patna on Wednesday and Sunday.
For the inaugural run,however,the train (03255) will be flagged off from Patna on October 31 at 11.55 am and arrive in Chandigarh on November 1 at 12 noon. The train (03256) will depart from Chandigarh at 9.30 pm on Friday and reach Patna at 8.45 pm on Saturday. The travel time is 23 hours and 15 minutes.
However,thereafter from November 3,the train will depart from Chandigarh on Monday and Thursday at 9.30 pm and reach Patna the next day at 5.55 pm. It will depart from Patna on Wednesday and Sunday at 9.30 pm and arrive in Chandigarh at 5.55 pm. The train will have 23 coaches. Between Chandigarh and Patna,the train will halt at nine stations: Ambala,Saharanpur,Roorkee,Moradabad,Bareilly,Lucknow,Sultanpur,Varanasi and Mughal Sarai.
The train was among those announced in the Railway Budget this year by former railways minister Pawan Kumar Bansal. The train was proposed in the Railway Budget and is being started before the Chhat Pooja when a large number of city residents travel to Patna, said local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal who will be flagging off the train from Chandigarh.
Over the past few months,Chandigarh has witnessed the start of several new trains. These include a train to Shirdi,another to Nanded Sahib and a train between Amritsar and Lal Kuan with a halt in Chandigarh.
Also,the Chandigarh-Ludhiana rail link was completed that led to shortening of the travel time of the train between Chandigarh and Amritsar. The train has stoppages in Mohali,Ludhiana and Jalandhar.
On November 17,another train between Chandigarh and Amritsar is being started which will depart from Chandigarh in the morning and make a return journey in the evening.
