Though several months have passed since the UT Administration had announced the launch of the non-AC cab service in the city, the projet remains a non-starter.

There is just one transporter, the owner of Harbir Motors, who had applied for the scheme and he too has been delaying on grounds that the new model of Tata Magic is yet to be unveiled.

Meanwhile, the authorities are yet to notify the fare. It has tentatively decided at Rs 9 for the first kilometre and Rs 15 for every subsequent kilometre.

On the other hand, the AC cabs have been allowed to charge Rs 15 for every kilometre and can also put up advertisements, another source of income.

Sources claim that the hike in diesel prices is the reason behind the delay. Though the sole operator has not made any demand regarding a hike in the fare or permission to put up advertisements, sources say the delay in notification has stalled the project.
