The students of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) have suspended their protest for the next 15 days. The students are waiting for their demands to be met by the NIPER management.
We have put forth certain demands related to accommodation and certain facilities which an educational institution should provide and we are not getting the same. This also includes the retention of two of our teachers. We are in talks with the management and is our demands are not met,we will be continuing with our protest, a student told Chandigarh Newsline.
Soon after a young scientist award recipient,Dr Parikshit Bansal was terminated from the institute,students had started a protest. Dr Bansal is guiding nearly 15 students for their major research projects,including a Ph.D student. Abrupt termination of Dr Bansal has us all hanging in the middle of their semester. The only fault of Dr Parikshit Bansal was that he raised his voice in ‘public interest against large scale corruption at NIPER,running into several crores of rupees,said a student on the grounds of anonymity.
A five member committee which was formed by the officiating director,Professor K K Bhutani to look into the demands of the students. Meetings which were held between the management and the students. The students have been assured that the management will be taking steps to meet the demands of the students pertaining to hostel facilities.
